Future Events
Peer Minister Retreat :
We are going to Michigan (on February 16-17th) for the Leadership/ peer minister conference. Over 100 student leaders from Lutheran campus ministries gather to share ideas, fellowship and grow in our service to God. The whole event lasts less than 24 hours but it is amazing how many memories get crammed into that time. Ask anyone who has been to one before. IF you are already leading or want to learn more about being a leader in our campus ministry (or even just pick up some leadership skills for use in other parts of God's kingdom) please email me or let me know that you are interested in attending this conference. There is no cost (all meals, travel and registration are covered for you!) but I do need to know ASAP if you thinking of attending. The deadline to sign up is Sunday February 11th, but the earlier you can tell me the better it is for our planning. You will be able to attend any classes you have on Friday and will be back by 10pm on Saturday night. I hope you can join us!
Spring Break Service Trip:
This year we are heading back to New Orleans. We will be going from the 10th until the 18th of March. This is a fantastic opportunity, but some details of what we are going to do once we get down there are still in the air, but talk to Pastor Marty for more information.
Past Events
Thanksgiving Dinner:
October 19th we are putting on a dinner for the congregation to say thank you for everything you do for us.
Red vs. Black Tailgate:
Before the Red vs. Black game come and tailgate with Refuge! Should be lots of fun details upcoming!
Homecomming party:
After the Homecomming game come down to the college lounge for a party and reunion of many generations of Lutheran Student Fellowship. Lots of fun and socialization after hopefully a Huskie victory!
D.A.W.C. Clean up night :
Clean up night at DeKalb area Women's center. Lots of painting and planting. Woot!
Operation Christmas Child :
Also we are filling shoe boxes of toys for impoverished kids. It was lots of fun. When else would you see 4 guys walking around Wal*Mart just playing with childrens' toys?
Braille-a-thon :
Every semester, we have a Braille-A-Thon, where we make braille bibles to send to needy countries. We work from sunset to sunrise in Fellowship Hall. Drop in and help for 30 minutes or an hour, every bit helps. Last Braille-A-Thon, we made the book of Psalms and made over 55 copies!
Trick or Treat for canned goods :
We went walking around asking for canned goods. All canned good collected will be going to Hope Haven. Lots of fun, and very successful
Cropwalk :
Millions of people throughout the world walk everyday for their basic necessities. Because they walk, you can choose to walk in this years Crop Walk. Walking benefits the poor by raising money to provide food. Monies raised are used for local, national, and world hunger needs. The walk begins October 16th at 3:00PM at the Sycamore United Methodist Church.
Photo Scavenger Hunt :
Just about every semester,
Refuge holds a photo scavenger hunt. Students get to go around campus
and do crazy things.
Oakcrest
Retirement Home :
Every
month , we plan to make another visit to the Oakcrest retirement home. During
the visit we play games and socialize with the residents. This trip
is lots of
fun and is one of our many service events that will be planned for this
semester. We typically
leave about 6:00 for Oakcrest, so come out and join us. We meet in the
college lounge,
which is located in the basement of the church. Any additional information
will be
posted next week in the upcoming events section.
Parent's
Night Out :
For
one amazing night parents from our congregation were able to go out and
have fun or just
sit and home and relax. Although we did not have many families who were
able to make
use of our first parent's night out, hopefully we'll be able to help more
families the next
time we hold this event.
And if you still can't get enough, sign up for
our e-mail list and we will let you
know what we have planned for the rest of the semester!!
